When looking at your competitive advantage, think of this!

While talking to a number of start-ups from the ones that are languishing and the ones that are successful I have come across the paradigm of competitive advantage.

What is considered to be a competitive advantage: You may call it USP, secret sauce or by any number of terms. I hear about patents, speed of development and deployment, bang for the buck, features, market penetration, great people, strong partners, loyal customers and the list goes on.

What we know causes competitive advantage but do not consider: Whilst one of the less spoken, discussed or even less understood about differentiator “intellect” or what is in your brain.

Though the competition can see, understand and emulate everything that is external to you. Your intellect or or what is in your head or your team’s head is hard to fathom.

How you are able to use your intellect to create a vision or use it to combine various ideas from similar or different domains to create something new.

Changing world needs change in competitive paradigms: The world is rapidly evolving, we have moved from hunter-gatherer to agrarian to industrial to Information Age.

The next evolutionary trend is creating value from the most intangible component which is the intellect and the intellectual potential.

Think of this as a positive energy that encourages and supports creative pursuits. Ability to combine knowledge from different domains. Hunger to absorb new ideas and put them to use. Creating a compelling vision in your head and undying belief and passion to help achieve.
